How to End Our Dependency on Oil Rich Dictators like Putin
Across the globe, peace-loving people are appalled by the dire situation in Ukraine. At the same time, the world must come to grips with the fact that Vladimir Putin took this violent course of action because he believed that Russia’s dominance of European fuel and energy markets would force the NATO countries to acquiesce. We must also recognize that despite our role as the world’s top oil and natural gas producer, the current reality demonstrates that the U.S. remains vulnerable to petroleum power plays by authoritarian regimes.

Environmental Bills to Watch During this Session
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has backed two climate bills focused on reducing emissions. The Clean Fuel Standard Act would reduce the carbon intensity standard for petroleum and other transportation fuels. The bill enables producers to offset high-carbon fuel by buying credits from companies that reduce emissions or create such alternatives as biodiesel and ethanol.

How to End Political Gridlock and Cut Carbon
Perhaps the greatest roadblock to building a cleaner fleet of cars, trucks, aircraft, and ships is Congress’ tendency to try to predict the future by choosing certain technologies as winners and dismissing others as losers. This “winner take all” approach pits carbon reducing strategies (electric vehicles vs. biofuels vs. gasoline vs. more efficient cars and trucks) and their lobbyists and supportive lawmakers against each other on Capitol Hill. The predictable result is gridlock.

Happy 1st decade lcfs, many happy returns
Sacramento, CA – On April 15, 2010, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) launched the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS). The LCFS has eliminated over 50 million metric tons of carbon pollution and proven itself to be the single most effective clean fuel program in the world. During this same decade, California’s GDP has grown 50% faster than the rest of the country while low carbon fuels and technologies have flourished in the Golden State. For all of these reasons, the Low Carbon Fuels Coalition raises a glass to toast the LCFS, and the staff and leadership at CARB who make the program a reality. We invite you to work with us in the coming year to expand the Low Carbon Fuel Standard nationwide to reap the full economic, environmental, and health benefits that clean fuels deliver.
