The Driving Decarbonization Video captures the essence of how low carbon fuel standards deliver real-world benefits. The original Driving Decarbonization event took place at the Global Climate Action Summit in September of 2018, and was co-hosted by the Low Carbon Fuels Coalition, the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, and below50.

Here is the invitation to the Driving Decarbonization Event that we co-hosted at the Global Climate Action Summit:

DRIVING DECARBONIZATION:
How Low Carbon Fuel Standards are Transforming Transportation, Saving Lives, and Igniting Innovation

September 13, 2018
Union Square, San Francisco
An Official Global Climate Action Summit Side Event
with Senator Fran Pavley

Across North America, states and provinces have launched initiatives that are reducing the transportation sector’s impact on the environment. In 2011, California pioneered its ground-breaking, technology-neutral Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), slashing GHG pollutants by 33 MMT of CO2e and displacing 10 billion gallons of petroleum fuel in its first six years. Oregon rolled out its own Clean Fuels Program in 2016 and is already achieving GHG and petroleum reductions while driving innovation in the transportation sector. In Canada, British Columbia has adopted a comparable carbon intensity focused policy. Other US states, Canadian provinces, and national and sub-national jurisdictions are poised to adopt similar programs suited to their local conditions.

Join us as we gather policy makers and other thought leaders from the U.S. and abroad, who will discuss efforts to decarbonize the toughest sector: transportation.

Learn the nuts and bolts of how a LCFS works.

Engage in a discussion on the full range of LCFS benefits including GHG reductions, jobs and economic growth, fuel diversification, air quality improvements, and health benefits.

Network during the event at the mid-way break, and during the evening reception immediately following the program.

Confirmed Speakers for the Driving Decarbonization Event include:

  • Senator Fran Pavley, primary author of California’s climate change policies

  • California Air Resources Board Transportation Branch Chief and Low Carbon Fuel Standard program lead, Sam Wade

  • Oregon Clean Fuels Program Manager, Cory-Ann Wind

  • Representative Joe Fitzgibbon, sponsor of HB 2338, the 2018 bill to establish a Clean Fuel Standard in Washington state

This officially sanctioned GCAS event is invite-only and will be held at the Kimpton Sir Francis Drake Hotel at 450 Powell Street on Thursday, September 13th from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm during the Global Climate Action Summit
